Mao Pagoda

Mao Pagoda, also known as Changshui Tower, is a five-story square pavilion-style brick and wood tower located on Sun Island in the Mao River, Zhujiajiao Town, Qingpu District, Shanghai. The tower was first built in the Tang Dynasty. It used to hang lights on the tower at night as a navigation mark for Maohe shipping. It is the earliest artificial navigation mark in China. Around the tower, a tower courtyard was once seen, which was used as a resting place for people coming and going. In 1962 and 1980, Mao Tower was listed as a cultural relic protection unit in Shanghai twice. In 1997, Mao Tower was restored to its original appearance after restoration. In 1998, Mao Tower was approved by the Council of the International Association of Navigational Lights as one of the 100 lighthouses of world historical relics.(泖塔)
